When a geoPublish file is opened, it looks for any geoWrite documents that are to be imported as text files. If it does not find each appropriate file on the disk, the program either crashes or a dialog box appears showing the name of the file not found. A new dialog box will appear for each file that is not found on the disk until the program finally crashes. The only thing that changes is the creative way in which the program crashes depending upon whether you're on a C-64 or a C-128 and what sort of drive your application data file is on.
To avoid this problem, open
@GetItWrite
before opening your geoPublish document. GetItWrite will display the first fifteen geoPublish files on a disk. When you select the document you want to open, GetItWrite will display all the geoWrite files your document wants to import, and tell you whether or not each file is on the disk.
GetItWrite also gives you the opportunity to rename geoWrite files that are imported into geoPublish documents. If you rename one of these files from the desktop, geoPublish won't be able to find it because it searches by filename. If you select the "rename" menu item, a dialog box will appear listing all the imported geoWrite files that are on the disk. Select the file you want to rename, and enter a new name in the next dialog box. GetItWrite renames the actual geoWrite file, and also changes the name in the geoPublish document so that it will find the file by its new filename.
GetItWrite works with GEOS 64 or GEOS 128. Like geoPublish, it works only in the 40 column mode.
GetItWrite is released as "Shareware". The theory behind shareware is that users can try software out without having to buy it, then pay the programmer if they decide they want to keep and use the software. Since there are no software publishers, wholesellers or retailers involved the amount the user is expected to pay is only a fraction of what it would be if the software were purchased in the store.
Which brings up the computer-age old problem: How much should a user pay the programmer for the software? I have devised a form which I hope will prove to be a fair way of determining the amount one might pay for GetItWrite. I would appreciate it if each person who decides to use GetItWrite would fill out and mail in the form, even if the person choses to not include any payment. I would at least like to get any comments or suggestions that the person might have. Please mail the form to the address shown on the form. My address is placed in a way that it will show in a window envelope. Please notice that the form accounts for the price of a stamp in computing the shareware amount.
Thank you for taking the trouble to respond. I hope you find GetItWrite to be a useful geoPublish accessory.
